Based in our Manchester office, Dominic has been working at Morson Projects since 2021, where at the age of 25 we welcomed him as a Graduate Controls Systems Engineer within our Ematics division.
We caught up with Dominic to hear more about his Early Careers Development Programme journey so far.
Hi Dominic! What has your education journey been like so far?

I started with a Criminology degree from Liverpool John Moore’s, then got my master’s in Sports Business and Management at the University of Liverpool.
After a brief trial with Ematics, I became a Graduate Controls Systems Engineer and then a Systems Engineer, working on the TPCMS project for Network Rail.
Since joining the Early Career Development Program last year, I have been diving into project management.
What are some of the most interesting projects you’ve worked on?
The TPCMS project for Network Rail has been a standout. Testing software for train lines across the UK was eye-opening and rewarding. It is incredible how much effort goes into even slight changes, like a label on a screen. Being on-site in Warwick also allowed me to engage with clients and experience the work environment firsthand.
What motivates you in your work?
I’m driven by a desire for excellence and competitive by nature, likely shaped by my background in sports. I focus on personal growth and seek out training opportunities wherever I can. With guidance from my mentor, Conrad Smith, I aim to advance my career and pursue project management qualifications.
How does the company support your professional growth and development?
The Early Careers Development Programme has been vital for my development. As my testing workload eased, I worked with my managers and my mentor to explore project management, the guidance from my mentor (Conrad Smith) has been invaluable and has led to me taking on more responsibilities.
Also, the company provides online courses through Udemy, allowing me to learn at my own pace.

What are your career aspirations for the next five years?
I want to dive deeper into project management and am currently helping manage a Frame Leakage software project within TPCMS. I aim to get an accredited qualification, like PRINCE2, with my mentor’s guidance to ensure it aligns with my goals.
Additionally, after being nominated for the ECDP Courageous Award, I am motivated to challenge myself further and aim to win one of the ECDP awards in the future.
What tips would you give to others starting out in industry?
Network as much as you can, whether on LinkedIn or at events. Building relationships early is key. Also, consider online courses in your field to build a solid foundation before starting a job, so you’re ready to jump in.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love playing rugby because it keeps me active and teaches me about teamwork. I also enjoy spending time with my family and dogs, Basil and Sybil. This time is important to me as it helps me stay balanced and energised.
