Based in our Manchester office, Ethan has been working at Morson Projects since 2020, where at the age of 22 we welcomed him as a Graduate Software Engineer.
Ethan joined us after studying Computer Science at the University of Salford and graduating in 2020. We caught up with Ethan to hear more about their Early Careers Development Programme journey so far.
Hi Ethan! What has your education journey been like so far?

After graduating and joining Morson Projects, I quickly realised there were still gaps in my knowledge – particularly in control systems, which hadn’t been covered in my degree. Being part of the Early Careers Development Programme, has been invaluable in helping me bridge those gaps and develop my skills further.
What are some of the most interesting projects you’ve worked on?
The most interesting project I’ve worked on so far has been the Training and Simulation Application for the TPCMS project with Network Rail. This software plays a crucial role in training operators on the control system used to manage the electrification of train lines, ensuring safe and efficient railway operations.
What motivates you in your work?
My motivation comes from the variety of projects we take part in, which makes the work much more interesting and allows me to learn a lot more. I especially enjoy problem solving and looking for solutions to difficult problems in projects to be particularly motivating.
How does the company support your professional growth and development?
The company helps to support my professional growth and development in many ways. Through the Early Careers Development Programme, I have access to mentorship and guidance. I have also taken part in training courses to help learn new skills and software’s. For example, I will soon be taking a course in PLC programming.
What are your career aspirations for the next five years?
Looking ahead, my goal is to progress into a senior engineering role within Morson Projects. I aim to continue contributing to a wide variety of projects and further develop my skills and expertise.
What tips would you give to others starting out in industry?
If I was speaking to someone who, like me, graduated with a degree in Computer Science, I would encourage them to stay open to new opportunities beyond traditional software development.
Some of the most rewarding aspects of my role have been hands on experiences, like site visits – something you wouldn’t typically encounter in a standard software development job.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy playing squash at my local club and spending time with friends and family.
