Based in our Bristol office, Cameron has been working at Morson since 2022, where at the age of 23 we welcomed him as a Graduate Engineer.

We caught up with Cameron to hear more about his Early Careers Development Programme journey so far.

Hi Cameron, what has your education journey been like so far?

I completed my A-Levels in Physics, Maths, and Biology at my local sixth form before pursuing a degree in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Nottingham. Originally, I planned to complete an integrated master’s with a year in industry, but this was cancelled due to the pandemic.

After four years at Nottingham, I began applying for graduate positions.

I initially joined an Engineering Graduate Scheme at a gas company. However, after eight months, I decided to seek an opportunity more closely aligned with my degree. A friend recommended Morson Projects, and I’m grateful for the chance to pursue this path.

What are some of the most interesting projects you’ve worked on?

Most of the work I’ve done at Morson Projects has involved collaborating with a leading industry aerospace firm for repairs on a fleet of older aircrafts.

Some of the most interesting projects I’ve been involved in include designing a new composite part of an aircraft, as well as contributing to a repairs team. The latter has been particularly rewarding, as it has given me the opportunity to work on parts across various sections which has allowed me to gain hands on experience with the aircraft.

What motivates you in your work?

Working on exciting projects across different platforms makes being motivated at work a lot easier. I’ve also always been very driven to be the best Engineer that I can be and as part of that I am looking to achieve professional registration with the iMechE. This has really helped me focus on a longer-term goal and motivates all the different work I do.

I was also really proud to be invited to present to my peers at our recent Early Careers Development Programme annual event.

How does the company support your professional growth and development?

I think the biggest thing that Morson Projects has done to help support my growth is providing different opportunities to step out of my comfort zone. One example of this is after I had highlighted that I wanted to improve on my presenting skills I was then given the chance to present at the annual early careers conference which was something that I really took a lot from.

Another way in which Morson Projects have been helpful in supporting my professional growth is by assigning a personal mentor when I initially joined the company to help guide my progress throughout the scheme.

What are your career aspirations for the next five years?

My biggest aspiration for the next 5 years is to become chartered with the iMechE. Aside from that I am also hoping to have graduated from the Early Careers Development Programme and started working towards having a more senior role within Morson Projects.

What tips would you give to others starting out in industry?

I would really recommended reaching out to people in the areas that you’re interested in and asking what skills or experience can make you stand out.

Completing a work experience can be a really good way of doing this and is something I know we offer at Morson Projects. Otherwise, it’s just a case of working hard and meeting as many people in the industry as you can.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work I enjoy playing football and am currently training to run the Lake Garda Marathon this April!
