What started as a charity challenge has quickly turned into a full-blown passion, and now, an exciting competitive journey.
Tom Schaltegger, sponsored by Morson Projects, first stepped into the ring in 2021 for an Ultra White-Collar Boxing event to raise funds for Cancer Research UK. What was meant to be a one-off act of fundraising lit a fire that couldn’t be put out. After several white-collar bouts and a growing hunger to push himself further, Tom transitioned into the amateur boxing scene in January 2025.
Now training under a licensed amateur coach at Apollos Boxing Gym in Bolton, Tom is currently undefeated and preparing for a highly anticipated home show next month.
We caught up with Tom to talk all things boxing; his training routine, mindset and what keeps him stepping into the ring.
From balancing work and sport to the highs and lows of life in the gym, find out more as we catch up with Tom:
Hi Tom, tell us a bit more about how you got into boxing?
I started kickboxing in high school but never stepped into the ring competitively—until 2021, when I took part in my first Ultra White-Collar Boxing (UWCB) event, raising money for Cancer Research UK. Two of those fights lit a fire in me to want to carry on.
I then joined Daywalkers Combat Academy in Irlam, where I competed in white collar boxing without head guards having 4 fights, 2 wins, 2 losses, but every bout fueled my dream to take things further.
In January 2025, I made the leap into amateur boxing, now training under a licensed amateur coach atApollos Boxing Gym in Bolton. Since then, I’ve gone 4-0 undefeated and have a home show lined up on June 8th. I never turn down a fight.
What does your training routine look like?
I fit my training in alongside my full-time job, my weekly training routine includes:
- Training Monday–Thursday, 7–8:30pm
- Long-distance runs (10–23k) on Fridays & shorter runs during the week
- Sparring Saturdays
- Rest Sundays or hikes
- Always in a calorie deficit, maintaining fight weight (dropped from 85kg to 68–70kg)
I’m obsessed with boxing, not just the training and fights, but the constant learning, discipline, and thrill of progress. There’s nothing like walking out to the ring with your name called, music playing, and your people behind you.
What’s next for you?
This August, I’ll compete in a 2-day Box Cup tournament in South Devon. Over the next year or two, my goal is to build my amateur record, win national championships, and when the time is right… go pro.
I’d also just like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to Morson for your sponsorship and belief in me. Your support helps cover training gear and custom fight shorts, and having a great company behind me this early in my journey means the world. As I move closer to turning professional, this partnership will be a big part of my growth and visibility.
To anyone chasing something big: stay consistent, stay obsessed, and outwork the version of yourself from yesterday. I’m just getting started, and I’m coming for everything I dreamed of.
